Obvious reasons not to buy a used air conditioner

• Refrigerant (freon) leak — often after dismantling, the unit is already “empty”, which means that you will have to spend money on refueling. Visually charged and empty air conditioners do not differ; you can't know this without a pressure gauge. Even if the air conditioner has enough freon, there is no way to know before starting it. The estimated average cost of refueling is -250

• Copper track damage — cracks, creases, old copper becomes brittle and brittle. It is easy to break and difficult to roll, so you have to buy a new track, which is money. Or rather, 1 meter of highway with a paver costs - 80gsm

• Hidden defects: the compressor, valves, electronic modules may fail already during start-up and after installation. The cost of replacing the starting capacitor is from 200

• Installation is a mandatory minimum cost, regardless of the condition of the unit, the installation work must be paid in any case. And more on top 350gre

• Cleaning the interior and exterior parts is almost always necessary, which means that you will have to order this one too. And this is 350gre more

Together, significant costs are often added to the price of a used unit, which “eat up” all the savings. Yes, if you order several services at once, we offer a 15% discount, but still the amount is rather big.

It is worth the risk of installing a used unit only if it is given to you for FREE.

Freon in old blocks is also “old”.

But in addition to financial risks, there is the obsolescence of the refrigerant — few people pay attention to this when buying, and we will pay attention to it.

When one refrigerant leaves the market, it is replaced by another, more modern one. This was the case with R22, and this is now the case with R410A. After some time, old machines will simply find themselves in a situation where they will have nothing to refuel them with, because your region may no longer produce and sell the necessary gas. This could happen in 5 to 10 years, but this is a very realistic scenario.

R410A is gradually withdrawing from the market because, although it does not deplete the ozone layer, its impact on the climate is too high — so countries are restricting its use. R32 comes to replace it because it is more environmentally friendly, requires less volume and causes much less harm to nature when it leaks.

And it is more convenient for us, installers and repairers, to carry fewer types of refrigerant with us. Sometimes we even refuse to service the air conditioners on the R22 because there is no gas, and there is simply no time to go to get it separately — especially during the season — there is simply no time.

If you still decide to buy a used air conditioner:

• Make sure this unit is on R32 and not on R410A;

• Buy an air conditioner “from the wall” — at least you can check it;

• Order diagnostics from us before buying — its cost can save you a lot of money.
